7A Girls Beat Wimberley |
The Burnet Middle School Lady Pups traveled to Wimberley on Thursday, December 4th for district basketball competition. The 8th grade A team suffered a disappointing loss to the Lady Texans by a score of 28-21. It was a hard fought contest, but we had trouble getting the ball in the basket. Although we did a better job of helping on defense, we still gave up too many easy lay ups. We also struggled at the line hitting just 1 of 10 freethrows. Scoring points for the team were: Nika Grady 1 point, Mariah Qualls and Deniese Hawkins 2 points each, Sydney Olson 4 points, and Catherine Hirneisen and Ashley Brown added 6 points each. I was proud of the girls effort. We are starting to do more things right and I know that will pay off for us in the long run. The Lady Pups will travel to Ingram on Thursday December 11th for their next contest.

8A v. Cove |
The Lady Pups 8th grade A team traveled to Copperas Cove over the weekend for a basketball tournament and came home with a 3rd place finish. The Lady Pups opened up with Copperas Cove Lee Junior High in their first game. We smothered them with our defense and were able to make some key shots in the first half. We went into halftime with a 12 point lead, but came out in the second half without our defensive intensity and we were ice cold shooting. We ended up losing the first game 43-36. In the second game we faced Temple Lamar Junior High, it was a close game in the first half, but the Lady Pups didn’t allow the opposition to score a single point in the second half of play. The Lady Pups won with a final score of 37-9. That set up a 3rd place final game with Temple Bonham Junior High, the Lady Pups came away with a close one, winning 25-21. This was a good tournament for us, we were very disappointed that we didn’t find a way to win the first game, but we were proud to come home with 3rd place medals. The girls are really doing a much better job understanding the game and we continue to improve each day. The Lady Pups will travel to Mt. Valley on Thursday before taking a break for the holidays.
