Bulldogs – Badgers end in 13-13 tie
The 8th grade Green Team ‘B’ opened its 2008 campaign against the Badgers of Lampasas and tied 13 – 13. The opening kick was an onside attempt that came up just short and that left the Badgers with great field position. The Bulldogs defense made it though for the Badgers to score and force them to make several key 4th down conversions. However Lampasas scored on a 4th and goal from the 8. On the very next series the Bulldogs made a scoring drive of the own. The key play was a 60 yd touchdown run by Jordan Barnard. Great blocks by Kris Flores, Austin Esposito, Austin Mullins, Adam Gregg, Chris Brobst, Braiden Bannister and Ty Johnson lead the way.
Just a few plays later Lampasas answered with a long run of there own. But the Bulldogs were up to the challenge and answered right back with a 50 yd touchdown on a reverse to Kenneth Wisian. This would be the last score of the game and that brought it to halftime with a score of 13-13. Offensively the Bulldogs looked sharp all game, great plays by Bannister, Colton Rockafellow, & Jordan Poe.
Due to the weather and the water spout the game was shortened in the second half. Defense was the difference in the second half. The Bulldog defense was swarming around the Badgers. Great plays all night by our Defensive Line were Brandon Kardow, Sean Chambers, and Adrian Corona. Our linebackers did a great job plugging up running holes and shutting down the passing game. These players include: Keenan Murchison, Chris Reyes, Aaron Bostic, Taylor Benitz, Matt Calvary and Ronnie Dean. The Bulldog secondary was all over the Badger passing game and had several near interceptions; they include Jake Boyd, Eddie Rivera, John Minton, Spencer O’Boyle, Hunter Wolff, and Ty Johnson.
All-in-all I couldn’t be more pleased with their performance and I am proud of each and every one of them for the hard work and dedication they put in each and every day. I feel very blessed and honored to be coaching them a second straight year. I encourage everyone to support our future Bulldogs by coming and giving these kids the love and support they deserve. Our next game will be here in Burnet on Tuesday September 16th. Hope to see you there.

Bulldogs fall to the Texans 19-6
Thursday night was a full night a football with three games being played here in Burnet. First off was the 8th grade Green Team ‘B’ which kicked off around 4:30. This was our first district contest of the 2008 campaign.
Burnet opened the game by kicking to Wimberley and had a chance to recover the kick as it bounced around several Wimberley players. It did not take long for the Texans to score as the opening play of the game was taking 58 yards for a touchdown. On the first possession for the Bulldogs we did not have similar results and the Bulldogs were forced to punt. After the punt, the Texans had great field position and marched down to score and close out the first quarter up 12-0. The first part of the second quarter was a stalemate until around 2:30 left in the quarter the Bulldogs began to move the ball. Several great runs by Braiden Bannister, Eddie Riviera, Kenneth Wisian, and Spencer Ray the Bulldogs marched inside the 10 yard only to stale and turn the ball over on downs as the first half came to a close.
In the second half the Bulldogs received the kick and carried that momentum over from the first half. The Bulldogs took the entire 3rd quarter and marched 68 yards down the field for a touchdown. This drive was set up by great blocking from our entire offensive line Colin Ratliff, Kris Flores, Austin Esposito, Justin Parrot, Austin Mullins, and Adam Gregg. Great plays by Adrian Corona, Jordon Poe, Hunter Wolff, Keenan Murchison, and Ronnie Dean opened holes for Bannister, Ray and Colton Rockafellow to run through which Rockafellow finish the drive with a one yard touchdown run. This would be the only touchdown the Bulldogs would score. He did have several great offensive plays but were not able to put long drive together. The Texans added another score late in the fourth quarter to go up 19-6 which would be the last score of the contest.
Defensively we played great all except for two plays which were both long runs of over 50 yards. Our front line did a great job most of the night stopping their counter running attack. These players include Faron Nichols, Zach Bobo, J.J. Benavides, Sean Chambers, Chris Brobst, and Bryan Everett. Our linebackers and secondary shut down the passing game with great plays and tackles. These young men are Cody Nodecker, Josh Moore, Chris Reyes, Jake Boyd, Trey Goble, Will Kyle, Logan Lopez, John Minton, Aaron Bostic, Taylor Benitz, Spencer O’Boyle, Ronnie Dean, and Matthew Calvary. The defense was able to force a fumble late in the game with about 25 second left, but the Bulldogs ran out of time.
Ours guys played well Thursday night but a few mistakes here and there were the deference’s. The 8th grade will go on the road next week for the first time this year as we travel to our nemesis of Liberty Hill. The 8th grade Green Team will kick off the game around five o’clock and I hope to see you all there.
8th Green vs. Liberty Hill
Thursday night the 8th grade Green team traveled to Liberty Hill to take on the Panthers in a heated district rival match up. Unfortunately the Bulldogs were defeated 14-6 in a close and well played game. Both teams played great and the Bulldogs made great improvements this week.
The Bulldogs started the contest by kicking to Liberty Hill. With Liberty Hill’s Slot T offense the Bulldogs did a great job on finding the football on this deceptive squad. Liberty Hill’s mentality is ball control, confusion, and running the ball. Our kids have never seen this type of offense before and played very well against it. Liberty Hill had a great opening drive and moved the ball deep into Burnet territory before turning the ball over on downs. Burnet is known for a spread offense, this week we gave Liberty Hill a taste of their own medicine and used an effective running game to counter attack. Burnet was able to move the ball very well and got down inside Liberty Hill territory. On a fourth down what looked to be an attempt to go for Colton Rockafellow quick kicked a punt over the defenders and the ball rolled down to the one yard line. With the Panthers pinned deep, on a 3rd down play they managed to run a 96 yard touchdown run and go up 8-0. Burnet could not answer on the following drive and turned it back over to Liberty Hill after a failed 4th down conversion. With 8 seconds remaining Liberty Hill had the ball on the Burnet four yard line and the Bulldogs made a miraculous stop to close out the half.
The Bulldogs received the second half kick and from the beginning the Bulldogs had something working. Braiden Bannister was pounding out the running game with great runs one after another. The Offensive Line was outstanding all night with Colin Ratliff, Austin Mullins, Justin Parrot, Chris Flores, Adam Gregg, and Chris Brobst providing a hefty running game by laying the smack down on the Panther front line. Adrian Corona, Kenneth Wisian, Austin Esposito, and Spencer Ray proved vital to our success as the lead the way for Bannister. Corona and Esposito had key runs in the drive of 22 and 14 yards. Bannister capped off the drive with a 28 yard touchdown run. After an unsuccessful extra point attempt the Bulldogs trailed 8-6 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The Bulldogs had several great chances to get back into this game, but in the middle of the fourth quarter the Panthers scored on a 40 yard run and lead 14-6. With less than four minutes left in the game the Bulldogs tried to get a last drive going to tie the game. In the last minute the ball changed possession twice as the Bulldogs turned the ball over on an interception, and then forced a fumble on a Spencer Ray hit. Unfortunately the Bulldogs just ran out of time.
Every one of our kids played great and I could not be more proud of them. We all tried something new this week with a new offense and a new defense and our kids stepped up to the challenge and were fantastic. Keenan Murchison, Chris Reyes, Jake Boyd, Dominic Garcia, Jordan Poe and Spencer O’Boyle provide great offensive support and were vital in our success. Defensively, I felt we played great. The only real mistake we made all night was on the 96 yard touchdown run. Zach Bobo, J.J. Benavides, Bryan Everett, Shawn Chambers and Faron Nichols played tremendous on the D-Line. Cody Nodecker, Colton Rockafellow, Josh Moore, Will Kyle, Logan Lopez, John Minton, Aaron Bostic and Hunter Wolff played excellent in slowing down the run game and stopping the pass.
Our boys played great and I am proud of how hard they try and I love the effort that each and every one of them put into the game. The 8th grade will host our last Home game of the year this Thursday against the Yellow Jackets of Llano. Please coming out and support our kids in there last home game as a Junior High Football Player.

The Bullpups took the opening kickoff and ran off 11 plays before failing to make a first down at the Liberty Hill 10 yard line. The cubs of Liberty hill drove the 90 yards needed on a long sustained drive to score and made it 8 to 0 at the end of the first quarter. After a punt by Burnet, Liberty Hil drove 60 yards to go up 16 to 0 at Half time.

The second Half again found Liberty Hill sustaining a long march to use most of 3rd quarter and go up 22 to 0. Burnet then drove to Liberty Hill 20 yard line in 9 plays only to lose the ball on downs again. The teams played even until late when The bullpups mounted a 70 yard sustained drive in 12 plays culminating in a 15 yard touchdown pass from Nic Melvin to Jai Patel. Aaron Johns ran off tackle behind nice blocks from Thomas Rhames and Ty Johnson to convert the PAT and made the Score 8 to 22.
The defense was led in tackles by Aaron Johns, Thomas Rhames, Cody Letterman and Jordan Barnard. The offense was led by good blocking from “Matt Guzman, Frederick Schmidt, and Jamie Nesom. Aaron Johns led the rushing yards with 60 yards in 10 carries. Nic Melvin was 8 for 12 in passing with one touchdown. Aaron Johns caught 3 passes for 40 yards, Justin Brown caught 2 for 20 yards, Jai Patel had the TD pass for 15 yards, Zach Evans had 1 catch for 8 yards. The 8th grade white team is 1-2 in wins and looking for no. 2 this week.
8th Grade A vs. Fredericksburg
The 8th Grade White Bullpup team defeated Fredericksburg 8th grade A team Last Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008. By a score of 26 to 0. The Bullpups played a complete game offensively and Defensively. The only let down was a fumble on the one yard line driving in to score and two missed pat’s. The defense held the billies on the their first possession and Michael Y’Barra returned their punt to the 50 yard line for the offense to start. After two completed passes to Aaron Johns and Zach Robles got the pups to the 15 yard line, consectitive runs by johns over the left side of the line put the ball on the one yard line. The fumble occurred here and Fredericksburg took over . After one first down by Fredericksburg Aaron Johns caused a fumble and Thomas Rhames recovered to set up the Bullpups at the 15 yard line. Running behind the blocks of Ty Johnson and Rhames and Frederick Schmidt ran for a 15 yard TD. The PAT failed and the pups led 6 to 0. After exchanges of punts and a sack by Alonzo Torres and Cody Letterman. The Pups took over and started a drive from our 40 yard line. Aaron Johns broke off the left side on a draw to run 60 yards for our second TD. A key block was provided by Jamie Nesom and Jai Patel to put Johns into the endzone. The Try for 2 on a pass resulted in a sack and Burnet led 12 to 0. The second half found the Pups driving 70 yards on 5 plays for another TD, this time on a nice 50 yard run by Zach Robles behind blocks by johns and Matt Guzman. Zach also added the PAT for a 20 -0 lead. The defensive unit continued to be very stingy with several tackles for losses by Jimmy Cauffman (3) Jordan Barnard (2) and Ryan Wiley (3). The offense again drove behind solid running from Zach Robles and Johns punched it in to give Burnet a 26 to 0 lead. The pups played their most complete game of the year with blocking and tackling much improved. We play Hudson Bend Tues, Oct. 21 in Hudson Bend.
Bulldogs fall to Billes 24-0
Thursday night the 8th grade Green Team faced off against Fredericksburg and lost 24-0. The Bulldogs had several bright spots in the game, but the Billes controlled the ball most of the game which made it difficult for the Bulldogs to score.
The Bulldogs all night had a difficult time moving the ball. Several big runs were stalled by a series of not so big runs. There were times when the Bulldogs look to be in a good rhythm, but penalties and some confusion plagued the drives. The biggest run of the night came from Colton Rockafellow when he rolled out of the pocket, then reversed the field and sprinted for a 26 yard run. On that same play Blaine Schilling had one of the best blocks all year, as he came back across the field he landed a vicious hit on a pursuing Bille. Braiden Banister and Spencer Ray had several big runs that sprung life into the Bulldogs; these holes were opened up by Colin Ratliff, Kris Flores, Justin Parrot, Faron Nichols, Adam Gregg, Ronnie Dean, and Keenan Murchison. Kenneth Wisian and Cody Nodecker also had several good runs.
Defensively the Bulldogs had trouble tackling. Several times the Fredericksburg players look to be made of rubber because many of our players just bounced off of them. Will Kyle, Logan Lopez, Zach Bobo, Shawn Chambers, B.J. Walker, Aaron Bostic, Bryan Everett, Austin Mullins came up and made many big plays. Faron Nichols played a great game at defensive end and only has been there two days replacing Adrian Corona who has been lost for the season due to injury. The second half the Bulldogs played better, but the Billes just pounded out four yard run after four yard run and controlled the clock. Other defensive notables are Josh Moore, Spencer O’Boyle, Jordan Poe, Dominic Garcia, and Jake Boyd.
The Bulldogs have a short rest period as the 8th grade will travel to Austin to take on Hudson Bend, a Lake Travis school, on Tuesday. Please come out to the game and watch the Bulldogs take a bite out of the Cavilers.
Bulldogs fall to the Yellow Jackets 24-0
Thursday the 8th grade Green team faced off against Llano and lost 24-0. Even though the score seems one-sided the Bulldogs had many opportunities to make it a game. The biggest obstacle was for the Bulldogs was taking care of the football.
The Bulldogs opened the game with the football and Adrian Corona took the opening kick 28 yards before being called out of bounds and almost took it to the house. The Bulldogs did manage a few first downs to move the ball into Llano territory before punting the ball to Llano. On Llano’s first passion, they had trouble moving the ball on the swarming defense of the Bulldogs. They mishandled a snap on the punt and were tackled around the Llano 32 yard line. Following a personal foul on the Jackets, the Bulldogs began their second drive starting at the 18 yard line. However, the very next play the Bulldogs fumbled and the Yellow jackets recovered for an 87 yard touchdown. Later in the second quarter the Bulldogs would fumble again deep in our own territory which set up the Yellow Jackets for their second score. Offensively we had trouble moving the ball and hard trouble holding on to the ball. Several big drops and fumble stalled many of our drives. However Colton Rockafellow and Kenneth Wisian hooked up twice in the game for big passes of 42 & 34 yards. Braiden Bannister and Spencer Ray had several great run behind Adam Gregg, Colin Ratliff, Justin Parrot, Austin Mullins, and Chris Flores.
Defensively we played fairly well. We gave up a few long runs that resulted in touchdowns and the defense had to work with a short field the whole night. B.J. Walker was outstanding on the D-line and dominated anyone that got in his way. Zach Bobo, Bryan Everett, J.J. Benavidez, Chris Brobst, Shawn Chambers, Faron Nichols, Cody Nodecker, Blaine Schilling, Aaron Bostic, Ronnie Dean, Spencer O’Boyle, Will Kyle, Logan Lopez and Dominic Garcia mad outstanding plays that held the Yellow Jacket slot T in check most of the night. Other notable players are Keenan Murchison, Chris Reyes, Jordon Poe, Jake Boyd, Taylor Benitz played outstanding on the Offensive side and made great blocks to help spring our running game.
Next week the Bulldogs will be on the road traveling to Fredericksburg to taking the fighting Billies. Come out and watch the Bulldogs turn their season around and get a W against Fred.
8th Grade White Team vs. Llano
Our 8 grade White team was defeated by Llano 32-0 thurs nite here in burnet. Llano had a dominant running game keeping the ball away from Burnet and not allowing but 5 first downs by the white team. The white team suffered thru 8 penalties which hurt any chances of the team sustaining any drives. The only success the white team had was on two screens, one to Aaron Johns for 50 yards and one to Colby walker for 8 yards and a run by aaron Johns, and a kick return by Colby Walker.. Our defense played very hard and gave up ground grudgingly but were on the field much too long and too often from 3 burnet turnovers. One was a fumble after a short gain, one was a blocked punt and the other was an interception. No doubt the worse game performance this year by the team after working very hard to improve from the previous week. All committed to working better at getting off the ball on offense and playing their responsibility and tackling on Defense. We will have a chance to show this next Thursday as we travel to Fredericksburg to take on the 8th Grade Billies. The Green team will play at 4:30pm and the White team will play at 6:00 pm. The coaches noted that Ryan Wiley, Billy Russworm, Cody Letterman, Jordan Barnard and Brandon Kardow showed much improvement in their Defensive Play this week. Improvement is needed from all on the offensive line and backs in their execution and blocking. Go Bullpups
On Tuesday night the 8th grade traveled to Hudson Bend and lost a tough battle 9-0.
This was a hard game for both the Green and White teams. Both teams combined lost four players to season ending injuries.
The first drive of the game went to Hudson Bend witch controlled most of the first quarter. The Burnet defense did give up any easy runs or passes the whole first half of the game. Great plays by B.J. Walker, Zach Bobo, Cody Nodecker, William Kyle, Spencer Ray, Colton Rockafellow, and Aaron Bostic keep the Buccaneer offense in check. The Bulldogs were finally able to force a turn over on downs and get the ball backed up deep in Burnet territory. However the Bulldogs, which have been plagued by the turnover bug all year, turned the ball over via a fumble and Hudson Bend had great field position. But the Defense was up to the challenged. Chris Reyes, Blaine Schilling, Shawn Chambers, and Faron Nichols all had outstanding plays to hold them to a rare Middle School field goal.
The Bulldog defense did a great job most of the night. We gave up a long run in the third quarter after we pinned them deep on a Rockafellow punt. Ronnie Dean had a spectacular game and stepped up and provided a spark for the Bulldogs with an interception and a tipped ball. Offensively the Bulldogs were able to move the ball but a few turnovers ended our long drives and prevented us from scoring.
The Bulldogs will have an off week this week and will do a self scrimmage on Thursday. The Bulldogs will travel to New Braunsfels on Nov. 6th to take on Mountain Valley. This will be the final contest of the season, so please come out and support our boys.
7th v. Mountain Valley
The Burnet 7th graders played host on Thursday to the Hawks of Mountain Valley. The B team suited up first and put their undefeated record on the line. The Bullpups wasted no time getting in front as Nick Ybarra took the opening kick off 65 yards for the touchdown to give Burnet a 6-0 lead. The point after was not successful. Mountain Valley then showed that their offense was no slouch and proceeded to move down the field. The Hawks moved the ball inside the 10 when Austin Crain made a big stop for a loss on first down. The next play saw Colt McCoy getting in the backfield for a big stop. On third down, Cutter Deubre and Antonio Escamilla provided pressure to cause an errant throw by the quarterback and the Pups recovered a fumble on 4th down to get the ball at the 10. Caleb Chapa then made an outstanding play by breaking several tackles on a rollout before going 90 yards down the field for a touchdown to run the score to 12-0. Chapa then found Lane Goar for the two point conversion for the 14-0 lead. After stopping the Hawks again, Escamilla took a hand off from Tyler Krause and went 30 yards untouched for touchdown to put the score at 20-0. The conversion was no good to keep the score where it stood. Early in the 4th quarter Brandon Richards scooped up a fumble that was caused by Tristan Martinez and rumbled 25 yards for the final score to put the Pups ahead 26-0. Dustin Caddel, Dillon Hanks, Keith Campbell, Derek Goble, Cody Wynn, and Justin Massingill all played well for the Pups. Their season record stands at 7-0-1. The team’s district record is 5-0 and are district champs. Coach Hafley would like to state how proud he is of the team for their hard work and never quit attitude.
The A team then took the field and had to find a way to finish what the B team started. The opening kick off was muffed by the Hawks and Derek Kiser was there to fall on it to give the Pups great starting position. The running game was great as the line opened holes for Everardo Medrano and Blaine Parisher as the team moved down field. Also aiding on the drive was a completion to Chase Mardis. The Pups finally put the ball in the end zone on a two yard run by Parisher. The extra point was low and Burnet led 6-0. Mountain Valley was undeterred as they drove the ball down the field and completed a pass for a touchdown and then added the two point conversion to put the Hawks up 8-6. Their lead was short lived as Nick Stevenson took the ensuing kick off 85 yards behind great blocking from Anthony Sanchez, Price Carpenter and Shane Williams. The extra point was wide right giving the Pups a 12-8 lead. Later in the first half, following a Austin Huff interception, Stevenson got loose again, this time for a 67 yard run to put Burnet up 18-8. After a Shane Williams pick, Stevenson followed a great block by Logan Knight, Medrano and Williams to bust loose for a 55 yard td run to seal the game at 24-6. Also playing well were Austin Free, Garret Jackson, Thomas Cromer, Zach McLeskey, Cody Oliver, Cody Nowells, Jordan Westbrook, Brian Bullock , Walker Townes and Jerron Click. The Pups finished their season on a 3 game winning streak to finish out the year at 3-4-1, but 2-2-1 in district. Coach Matt is very proud of his team as they improved each week and continued to work harder and better.
7th grade v. Marble Falls
The 7th grade football team traveled to Marble Falls Tuesday and took on the Ponies. In the first game of the night, the C team played brilliantly on defense in the first half and kept the Ponies out of the end zone after the Ponies had several plays inside the 20. Leading the defensive effort were Tyler Krause, who had a key interception, and Cutter Dewbre. The team then came alive on offense led by Krause, Derek Goble, and Dillon Hanks. COlten McCoy also played well as the team ran behind the great blocking of Austin Crain. The team eventually settled for a 0-0 tie. Also playing well were Storm Wood, who had a sack, and Colt Fox.
The B team pulled yet another rabbit out of the hat. The team gave up an early score to fall behind 6-0. The score stayed that way until the last few minutes of the game. Marble Falls was looking to run out the clock until a great play by Tristan Martinez set up a great tackle by Anthony Sanchez. The tackle caused a fumble that was recovered by Kyle Steinfelt. Caleb Chapa then lined up at quarterback and led the team down the field. Chapa was pressured and hurried by the Pony defense but he stayed cool making great runs and precise passes. The drive was helped out by an outstanding catch on the sideline by Nick Ybarra. Chapa then found Ybarra for a 10 yard touchdown pass with 17 seconds left in the game to tie the score at 6-6 where the game finished. Also playing great in the game was Jeremie Robertson, who made a great catch between defenders, Scott Smith and Keith Campbell. Pacing the defense were Sanchez, Martinez, Smith, and Austin Free.
The A team did not fair as well and the fell to the Ponies 19-0. The game started with promise as the Ponies fumbled on the first play and it was recovered by Jerron Click to give the Pups great field position. On 3rd down, Derek Kiser connected on a beautiful pass to Shane Williams to put Burnet in striking distance. However, the team committed some penalties to stall the drive and it set the tone for the night. The team made a great drive in the 2nd half led by quarterback Blain Parisher and the running of Jonathon Cline but again they had some timely penalties that hurt. Also playing well for the Pups were Walker Townes, Everardo Medrano, Garrett Castillo, Corey Nowles and Jordan Westbrook. Their record now sits at 0-2.
The teams will travel next Thursday to play the Texans of Wimberly.
The 7th grade Bullpups v. Wimberly Texans
The B team kicked things off in a great fashion. On the 3rd play of the game, Jacob Holland stepped in front of a pass and returned the ball 42 yards for the touchdown. The extra point failed and the Pups led 6-0. The game stayed deadlocked at that score until Caleb Chapa put the game away on a 35 yard quarterback keep that put the Pups up 12-0. Chapa then ran in the two point conversion that finished the scoring at 14-0. Playing well for the Pups on offense were Austin Free, Justin Massingill, Jeremie Robertson, Nick Ybarra, and Brandon Richards. The defense was paced by Holland who also had another pick. Colt McCoy played great on defense as did Free, Mason Cogburn, Michael Cogburn, Cutter Dewbre, Lane Gore, Luke Webb and Tyler Krause. The B teams record is now 2-0-1.

The A team did not fair as well but played a tremendous game on the defensive side. The Texans had great field position the entire night and each time the defense stopped them cold. Blain Parisher had two interceptions on the night to help pace the defense. Jonathon Cline, Trenton Hafley, Eric Richter, Anthony Sanchez, Logan Knight, Brian Bullock, Price Carpenter, and Shane Williams all played great as did Jerron Click and Austin Huff. The offense sputtered all night and could not get anything going. Williams had some nice catches as did Walker Townes. Greyson Fowler, Derek Kiser and Parisher played well on offense as well.
The game was knotted at 0-0 until the last 30 seconds when the Texans scored on a 4th down play to put them up 6-0 where the score stayed. Burnet kept on fighting and moved the ball down the field until they ran out of time. The A team now stands at 0-3.
The 7th grade will finally play at home next week as they host the Panthers from Liberty Hill. However, there will be a “C” team game as some of the Pups will play Marble Falls at home at 3:30. The B team will then get underway at 4:30 and the A team will start at 6. Come out and support these fine young men and then stay and watch the JV at 7:30.

Great runs by Trenton Hafley and Jonathon Cline, along with a great catch and run by Nick Stevenson, put Burnet close to pay dirt. Cline then ran it in behind a great block by Hafley. Austin Huff’s p.a.t. fell short to give Burnet a 6-0 lead. The game stayed that way until late in the 3rd when the Panthers finally knotted the game at 6. On the two point try, Stevenson came up with an outstanding tackle to keep the game tied. The game stayed tied until the end when the Pups defense stood strong and kept Liberty Hill out of the end zone. Also playing well for the Pups on offense were Huff, Logan Knight, Thomas Cromer and Zach McCleskey. The Defense was paced by a complete team effort. Erick Richter led the charge along with Everado Medrano, Knight, Anthony Sanchez, Cline, Hafley, Jordan Westbrook, Price Carpenter, Brian Bullock, Walker Townes, Parisher, Derek Kiser, Shane Williams, and Garret Castillo.

The teams will play in Llano on Thursday.
7th versus Fredericksburg
The 7th grade Bullpups hosted the Battlin’ Billies from Fredericksburg on Thursday and played two outstanding games. The B team started the night off with a bang. The Billies offense came out firing and moved the ball pretty easily until Nick Ybarra and Cutter Duebre came up with some big stops that put the Pups on offense. Caleb Chapa took over at quarterback and methodically led the Pups down the field. Great runs by Ybarra and Chapa put Burnet in scoring position. Finally, Ybarra scampered in from 22 yards to put Burnet up 6-0. Ybarra then nailed the extra point to make it 7-0. Fredericksburg answered the drive with a couple of good plays and then one long run but the Pups stuffed the conversion to keep the lead at 7-6. Ybarra then returned the following kickoff 77 yards for the touchdown to run the lead to 13-6 and the extra point was blocked. Fredericksburg once again answered quickly but failed on the conversion to trail 13-12. The Pups controlled the ball and the clock for almost all the 2nd quarter and then most of the 3rd quarter before Ybarra scored once again to make the score 19-12. Antonio Escamillia then ran in the two point conversion to make the score 21-12. Fredericksburg scored once more to make the game interesting but Burnet held on for a 21-18 win. Playing well on the defensive side were Colt McCoy, Duebre, Tyler Krause, Jacob Holland and Brandon Richards. Playing well on offense were Dustin Caddell, Cody Wynn, and Justin Massingill. Their record is now 5-0-1 for the year.
The A team then took to the field and set the tone early. On the opening kickoff, Everardo Medrano put a vicious hit on the returner to let the Billies know the Pups had come to play. Blaine Parisher then made a big hit as well to force the Billies to punt. Burnet took the ball and again showed they were ready to play. Derek Kiser led the team at quarterback and took the team down the field. Parisher made some great runs at tailback and Medrano made a good run and hat a key catch. The big plays were two passes to Nick Stevenson, the 2nd covered 45 yards and put the Pups up 6-0. On the very next defensive possession, Jerron Click came up and made a big hit on the tailback that caused a fumble that Click recovered. On the next offensive play, Parisher found Kiser wide open on a pass that covered 24 yards that put Burnet up 12-0. The extra point was again wide left. Things stayed like they were until early in the 4th quarter. Fredericksburg was moving the ball until Price Carpenter came up with a big interception. After a couple of penalties that moved the ball back, the Pups again found paydirt. Kiser connected on a 67 yard pass to Walker Townes on a great pass and run. The extra point was again wide left. The score was now 18-0 and it stayed there as the Pups ran out the clock. Shane Williams and Chase Mardis also helped the offense with some nice catches. Stevenson added some great runs with great blocking by Thomas Cromer, Logan Knight, Zach McLeskey, Cody Oliver, Anthony Sanchez, Austin Free, and Garrett Jackson. Click led the defense with several tackles, quarterback sacks and quarterback hurries. Also playing well on the defense were Jordan Westbrook, Erick Richter, Parisher, Austin Huff, Carpenter, Brian Bullock, and Knight.
The team is now 1-4-1 and they will host Hudson Bend on Monday.
7th Grade at Llano
The 7th grade football team traveled to Llano Thursday night to take on the Daubers. The B team got things started and took on a very good offensive team. The Daubers took the opening kick off down the field and were about to score. That is when Colt McCoy made a great hit that caused a fumble that the Bullpups recovered. On the very first play on offense, Nick Ybarra broke several tackles and then went 87 yards for the touchdown. Ybarra then ran in the conversion to put the Pups up 8-0. Llano came back and put a touchdown and conversion on the board to tie the game at 8. After great defensive plays by Cutter Deubre, Tyler Krause, and Scott Smith, the Burnet offense took over again and Ybarra again found the end zone on a 36 yard run. The conversion failed but Burnet led 14-8. Early in the 4th, the Pups mounted another drive that was fueled by a 25 yard completion from Caleb Chapa to Jerome Robertson. Chapa finished the drive with a 15 yard touchdown run. The Pups were up 20-8 and then hung on to win 20-14. Justin Massingill, Lane Goar, Austin Crain, and Zach Blair played great on the offensive line opening holes all game. McCoy led the defensive charge with several tackles and two key sacks. Chris Sefarick, Brandon Richards, Keith Campbell and Antonio Escamilla also helped in the defensive attack. The B team is now 4-0-1 on the season.

The A team did not fair as well. After Llano scored on the opening drive, the Pups took over. They moved the ball very well. The big play on the drive was on a pass from Blaine Parisher to Nick Stevenson. Jonathon Cline and Parisher had some good runs to get the Pups inside the Daubers 5 yard line. However, Llano’s defense stiffened and kept Burnet out of the end zone. Great ball control kept the ball out of Burnet’s hand for most of the 2nd quarter and when Burnet got the ball back, they were trailing 16-0. This time, quarterback Derek Kiser led the team down the field. Kiser made some great runs before the Pups ran out of time. Kiser led the Pups on the opening 2nd half drive again down the field. Runs by Cline and Everardo Medrano put the Pups inside the Dauber 30 before an interception ended the drive. The Pups would not touch the ball again until there were 7 seconds on the clock and they were trailing 22-0. Playing well offensively were Zach McLeskey, Logan Knight, Austin Huff, and Austin Free.
The Defense was led all night by the hard hitting of Parisher. Knight played havoc in the Dauber backfield all night. Jerron Click, Kiser, Stevenson, Brian Bullock, Price Carpenter and Walker Townes also contributed on the defensive side. Their record is now 0-4-1.
Both teams will be at home next Thursday to battle Fredericksburg. The boys will then have a quick turnaround as they will host Hudson Bend the following Monday.
BMS 7th V. Hudson Bend
The 7th grade Bullpups hosted the Buccaneers from Hudson Bend on Monday and played 3 contests. The day was started with the C team kicking off the action. The C team was led by the offense on some great plays. Luke Webb has 2 catches on the day for over 100 yards. However, the team was only able to capitalize on one of the catches to convert to a touchdown. That touchdown also came on a pass from Tyler Krause to Tristan Martinez. The defense was led by Austin Crain, Martinez, and Dillon Hanks. Also playing well on the offensive side were Martinez, Michael and Mason Cogburn, Tanner Rex, and Derek Goble. The final score had the Pups on the wrong side, 12-6.
The B team fought hard to keep its unbeaten streak alive. In the first half Burnet played defense then entire half with the bend but don’t break mentality. Hudson Bend had the ball the entire first quarter but the Pups yielded no points. When the Pups finally went on offense, they waisted no time as Caleb Chapa found his favorite target Nick Ybarra for a pass and catch that covered 88 yards to put the Pups up 6-0. Chapa converted the two point conversion to make it 8-0. Hudson Bend brought it back to 8-8 before Ybarra scored in the 4th quarter on a 25 yard touchdown run. The conversion again was good as Chapa connected with Luke Webb for the 16-8 lead. Hudson Bend was trying to get back in the game late by throwing the football with some success until Ybarra once again ruined their day with a interception and return of 38 yards to seal the game at 22-8. Playing well on offense were Antonio Escamilla, Justin Massingill, Webb, and Keaton Castillo along with Chapa and Ybarra. Colt McCoy led the defense along with Cutter Duebre, Brandon Richards, Massingill, and Chapa. Their record now stands at 6-0-1.
The A team game started out like a comedy of errors. Burnet fumbled the opening kick off to give the Bucs great field position. However, on the first play, Shane Williams made a great hit that caused a fumble that Nick Stevenson recovered to give Burnet the ball. Burnet’s offense looked great behind the quarterbacking of Derek Kiser and they moved down the field behind the running of Everardo Medrano and Blaine Parisher. However, the Pups committed a turnover that gave the Bucs the ball at midfield. The Pups forced a punt but the Bucs pulled a fake that gave them the ball inside the 20. But the defense stepped up again and Stevenson stepped in front of a pass and returned the ball 94 yards to put Burnet up 6-0. After forcing another punt, Burnet took over again on offense and began to move the ball down the field. Kiser made some good throws to Williams and Stevenson while Parisher made some good runs to put the Pups in scoring position. This time, the pass was made from Parisher as he found a wide open Kiser for a 26 yard touchdown pass. Austin Huff kicked the extra point to put the Pups up 13-0. That is where the score stood until the final buzzer sounded. Stevenson and Parisher, along with Medrano, combined to run for over 125 yards. Parisher and Kiser also combined to throw for 150 more. Opening holes and protecting the quarterback were Austin Free, Garrett Jackson, Anthony Sanchez, Zach McLeskey, Logan Knight, and Thomas Cromer. The defense pitched its second straight shutout led by Erik Richter and Medrano. Parisher, Jordan Westbrook, Kiser, Jerron Click, Walker Townes, Price Carpenter, Brian Bullock, Huff, Knight, and Corey Nowels also played well on the defensive side. The team will essentially have the week off but they will scrimmage each other on Thursday before finishing the year against Canyon Lake.

8th Grade v. Mountain Valley
Thursday night the 8th grade football teams traveled to Mountain Valley for their last football game of the season. The night started with the Green Team looking to pick up their first win of the year.
Burnet opened the game by kicking to Mountain Valley and from the first play the Bulldogs were all over the football. In the first quarter they had a difficult time moving the ball on our swarming defense. Spencer Ray, Zach Bobo, Justin Parrot, Faron Nichols, Chris Flores, Shawn Chambers, Chris Brobst, and Brian Everett all accounted for several tackles for loss. Will Kyle, Ronnie Dean, Cody Nodecker, Colton Rockafellow, Chris Reyes, Dominic Garcia, Hunter Wolff, Spencer O’Boyle, and Josh Moore all played great against the passing game and made several outstanding plays all game. Mountain Valley was able to finally move the ball late in the first quarter and converted on several key 4th down plays. They managed to score on the opening play of the second quarter and lead 8-0.
The Bulldogs had trouble moving the ball in the first half. Several miss blocks, dropped passes, and penalties staled any drive the Bulldogs managed to get. It was not until less than one minute in the opening half the Bulldogs began to move the ball. The big play came on a lateral pass when Rockafellow threw a lateral to Blaine Schilling who then threw the ball down field to Spencer Ray for a pickup of 42 yards. That put the Bulldogs inside the 25, but unfortunately the time ran out before we could score.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with the ball and began a little sluggish. After a missed snap and a penalty the Bulldogs finally busted a long run. A 49 yard run by Braiden Bannister set up the bulldog inside the 30. With back to back trap runs by Ray and Wisian the Bulldogs had 1st and goal from the three. Finally Bannister was able to punch threw a hole with a three yard touchdown run. This drive was all set up by great blocking of Austin Mullins, Zach Bobo, Justin Parrot, Chris Flores, and Adam Gregg. Taylor Benitz, Keenan Murchison and Jordon Poe all had tremendous plays to help spring life into the Bulldogs. The extra point failed. This left the score 8-6.
The third quarter was pretty much a stalemate and with about five minutes to go in the game, Mountain Valley was able bust loose a long run and score from about 40 yards out. With a failed PAT, the score was 14-6. The very next Bulldog possession, the Bulldogs fumbled a hand off on an end around and turned the ball over. With time ticking down, the Bulldogs came up big and managed to force a fumble of their own. This set up the Bulldogs to make one final drive with less than two minutes to go. With the Bulldogs needing to make a big play, Spencer Ray took a reverse and picked up 20 yards, but a penalty pushed the gain to only 10, setting up a big third down play. The very next play, Colton Rockafellow gave the defense a quick pump fake and then chunked a beautiful pass down to Ray who made a spectacular catch for a 32 yard gain. Later in the drive the Bulldogs were faced with a 4th and 9 and attempted the Boise State statue of liberty to Spencer Ray. However, he was tackled just inches from the marker forcing a turnover on downs with just twenty-five seconds left.
Our 8th grade Green team played much better than the record would show. The boys played hard and I couldn’t be more proud of the progress we have made. Several of the kids have made so much improvement and I hope that they continue to grow and progress. I want to give a special thanks to the parents for their support and giving me the opportunity to coach their child.
