In order for any child to be successful at school there must be a positive ongoing working relationship between the school and home. We need your help. Please work with your child when they have homework and let’s keep the lines of communication open.
Homework each night could be just a wonderful conversation about how your day was.
Get a sense of your child's life at school by asking questions that elicit more than a one-word response.
The trick is to ask about things that are specific, but still open-ended. Tell your child to describe his world. It's also great to start the conversation with an anecdote from your own day. Try one of these conversation-starters:
1. Tell me about the best part of your day.
2. What was the hardest thing you had to do today?
3. Did any of your classmates do anything funny?
4. Tell me about what you read in class.
5. Who did you play with today? What did you play?
6. Do you think math [or any subject] is too easy or too hard?
7. What's the biggest difference between this year and last year?
8. What rules are different at school than our rules at home? Do you think they're fair?
9. Who did you sit with at lunch?
10. Can you show me something you learned (or did) today?

Question for you!!!
How Involved Are You?
Are you involved in your child's education? Here's a quiz to help you find out. Give yourself five points for something you usually do, zero points for something you never do—or any score in between you think you deserve.
___1. I attend parent-teacher conferences.
___2. I give my children a quiet place to complete his/her homework each day.
___3. I visit my children's classrooms.
___4. I read to and with my children.
___5. I help my child display or demonstrate what has been learned.
How did you score?

Twenty or more points means you are an involved parent. Fifteen to 19 points means you're doing an average job. Below 15 points—use ideas from the quiz to become more involved with your child's education.
